This Week's Prizes

Who won at style this week? Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Azealia Banks, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Julia Louis Dreyfus and Michelle Obama of course.

MICHELLE OBAMA

FLOTUS went to Japan and wore Kenzo like it had never been worn before.

NICKI MINAJ AND KATY PERRY

Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry hung out like a pair of crime bustin' babes on instagram. This is begging to be a movie poster. It has to be a comedy written by Wiig, stat.

JULIA LOUIS DREYFUS

JLD in the JKL. She's so cool and this dress is spectacular. Video evidence here. Whiskey shots for me and Dreyfus please.

AZEALIA BANKS

THE HAIR. THE LEOPARD PRINT. THE BLACK CATS.

MINDY KALING

Mindy Kaling called into the Buzzfeed office this week and looked this cute. She is always so coordinated I think she must have a Clueless style wardrobe matcher thingy going on in her house.

RIHANNA

Yeah it's Rihanna again. Because Rihanna in pastel pink is not something that I thought I needed until recently, but I definitely need it. And Home is going to shit all over Frozen, I'll tell you that much for free.

What's Pink, Red and Awesome All Over?

It is time to pay homage – officially - to my favourite look; the red and pink combo. Why do I love it so much? There’s something about the sheer boldness of someone who opts for this dynamic. Everyone tells you that red and pink clash. Practically from birth. When you’re lying in that cot the fashion witch of the west whispers “Don’t try red and pink. You will fail miserably. It is a curse and an impossibility that is as vile as it is famous throughout the land.” Well I am here to tell you that Hello, I am your fairy godmother, and you can do it. You have an eye for colour and a flair for pairing and I have faith in you.

I also love that it’s unapologetically feminine (though not exclusively, of course.) We’re told that red is for grown up lady vamps and pink is coy lil girly girls but guess what, you’re neither of these things and both of these things and you can do and wear whatever the hell you like.

Pink is for teenagers? Red is for vixens? Well make like an Elle Woods Jessica Rabbit hybrid and tell everyone to jump on this gender neutral colour train to Killing It, first stop Who The Fuck Cares If This Clashes.

Here’s some inspiration for us. Let's talk through some strong options.

First up, the blazer.

MIA and Tay Schilling know what's up. Either way around?? Works. You see, this look is far more malleable than you might think.

Secondly, the tux.

Rihanna brought it like it had never been brought before. This is my favourite ever ever red/pink look because it involved a tuxedo stripe (winner) and a clear heeled oxford shoe (winner winner chicken dinner) Oh Rihanna, you always spoil us so much.

I want this £350 Acne jacket more than anything. Honestly, I'd take it over world peace and being on Amy Poehler's speed dial any day. (I wouldn't. But I do love it.)

So slick. So smooth. So colourful.

This Whistles number is great also. But I can't find it anywhere :(

So who else has done a good job of working st valentines?

Sarah Jessica Parker, that's who.

And Joely Richardson...

and The Patron Saint of Babedom, Rashida Jones

But all looks have a queen. Bjork is queen of innovation, Diane Keaton is queen of suits, Solange is queen of colour, Gwen Stefani is queen of sportswear, Lupita Nyong’o is queen of red carpet and Avril Lavigne is queen of pop punk (I mean, knock it all you want, but it’s true.)

And Emma Stone is queen of red and pink. The older she gets, the more she is transcending into a master.

In the classic metaphor structure she starts out as a caterpillar.

1...

2...

(Okay I admit this is actually pale pink and hot pink but if The Dress debacle has taught us anything it's that...*trails off because I can't be bothered*)

3!!!

The butterfly has emerged from the cocoon.
Emma Stone is officially rocking red and pink harder than anyone. Pale and ginger wins.

Let's give her a run for her money shall we?

PS. I have tried and failed to find a celebrity man wearing pink and red. I was absolutely SURE I would find Jared Leto in this look. Leto, I’m 100% you’ve done it but alas I cannot find it. I apologise.

This Week's Prizes

MAE WHITMAN

Mae Whitman is a winner. Let's not get into The Duff because the whole concept of Whitman being labelled the ugly fat friend or whatever makes me want to burn my eyeballs out. Honestly, save yourself the premature ageing and sheer sexism-related-exhaustion and skip it. Even skip the trailer. Go live a fruitful live. But Mae is Grae(t). Look at this cover. Look at this green eyeshadow. I can find it in my heart to forgive you.

FRIEDA PINTO

I have no idea about anything comic book related but I think Catwoman should be a film and Frieda Pinto should be Catwoman.  Is this a thing? A likely thing? I don't know but the grey streak, the lipstick, it all works.

GWEN STEFANI

Gwen's back again. I couldn't resist.

SOPHIA BUSH

Brooke Davis all damn day. First Whitman and now Bush? Bello magazine is doing great this month.

HELEN MIRREN

There are no words to describe Helen Mirren at this point. We need a whole new dictionary. The Oxford English Mirrenary and The Harvard American Streepary, perhaps.

MICHELLE WILLIAMS

So cute! So cute! Great hair, great dress, great face.

TATIANA MASLANY

This is fancy. The Canadian Screen Awards, where Tatiana Maslany finally gets the recognition she deserves and she gets to look this good claiming it. There is justice in the world.

This Week's Prizes

ANNA KENDRICK

Anna Kendrick has all her bases covered. Girls who love musicals love her. Girls who love indies love her. Girls who love comedy love her. Girls who love twitter love her. What boys love her? Who even cares.

Look at this stunning spread for Nylon. My favourite of the bunch is this one, which makes her look like the hottest player at Big Band practice. Putting the imp in pimp.

REBEL WILSON

Look who's back pitches! Yes the stars of Pitch Perfect have been, well, pitch perfect with their style this week because Rebel Wilson aka a god amongst funny people has been jazzing it up with my ol' favourite - the red/pink combo. She looks so cute. And extra points for accessorising with...

An icon. Jennifer Saunders! Jennifer bloody Saunders! I need these ladies to collab yesterday. How exciting that they're in the same place at the same time. I wonder what they're cooking up in their comedy cauldron? Pair of angels.

MAYA RUDOLPH

Ain't nobody fucking with Maya Rudolph.

Shimmying up to the Comedy Central 'Night Of Too Many Stars' looking like Janelle Monae got the lead in an Inspector Gadget reboot.

PREACH.

Also, lipstick.

JLO

I love a pop culture throwback more than jlo loves her own body (because why wouldn't she) and this cheeky lil ref to the Liz Hurley safety pin dress made me so happy. Never change JLo. Never stop acting like you are doing material a favour by putting a little bit of it on you.

SUSAN SARANDON

Susan Sarandon at the Goldene Kamera Awards this week. Susan Sarandon is 68.
